Improvisation Nights at The Birdcage - Dowding/Percy/Larwood (trio), plus support by Oliver Payne (solo)
Tonight is the first of a couple of nights at The Birdcage exploring improvised combinations of musicians in Norwich.
The evening opens with a solo set by Norwich-based sound artist Oliver Oliver Payne. He explores a new electroacoustic solo project using two oscillating fans as the main sound source. Oliver is also a founding member of Norfolk and Norwich Sonic Arts Collective (NNSAC) and can be found organising workshops with the charity Musical Keys during the day...
The main set is one-off improvised trio of Chris Dowding (cornet), Bob Percy (electronics) and Daniel Larwood (acoustic guitar). The trio met at The Plank - a participatory improvising group that meets twice a month, run by NNSAC. The set will explore the textures found between these three musicians.
Chris Dowding performs in several groups including Natural Causes (www.naturalcauses.org.uk), Rude 2.0 (with the trombonist Annie Whitehead) and leads the Moonrise Trio. Bob Percy is a performer and sound artist based in Norwich, and has recently completed an MA at NUA. Daniel Larwood recently performed solo for the closing event of the NNSAC Plankestra Presents series.
