Kate Smurthwaite ClitStirrer

The award-winning feminist, atheist, polyamorous comedian and writer for Have I Got News For You, puts away all those years of coquettishness and gets off the fence.

Kate has sworn, flashed her hairy armpits at Eamonn Holmes, shown up in pyjamas, called a Daily Mail columnist “Dad” and shouted at a nun all on live TV. That’s when she’s not insulting organised religion or the monarchy. But is she the one with the problem? Lots of angry men with very poor grammar on the internet think so.

She’s actually a nice quiet homely sort. In her new one-woman show, Kate lifts the lid on her reputation as a provocatrice extraordinaire and asks: where did it all go wrong?

Simon Caine / No Money In the Bank - EdFringe Preview

Two Edinburgh Fringe previews for just £10?! In this economy? You're welcome.

About the shows -

No Money in the Bank presents:
Nobody Likes You When You're 33

Thom Bee & Andrew Marsh don’t know what to do now they’re 20s are over. They’re getting old, damnit. But they’re not going to worry about it, not now, because one thing still keeps this duo young. The angst ridden world of pop-punk. Nobody Likes You When You’re 33 is a show that takes their favourite music, and distorts it through a new lens, focussing on all the small things, to how these two can be they’re own worst enemy, to the misery business that is ageing. So you better make damn sure you join Thom & Andrew on this bizarre musical voyage.

Simon Caine: Every Room becomes a Panic Room When you overthink enough

Simon Caine is interested in the stories we tell ourselves vs the stories other people hear. Why do we always cast ourselves in the best part in all our stories when we share them online? And what's the truth behind them? A new show looking at our relationship with happiness and social media in an age where attention seems to be wanted over personal growth. Where experiences are only as valuable as the number of likes they get and where anxiety seems to be everywhere and I'm sure there's no link between these things.

About Simon

Simon Caine has been performing stand up for over 7 years. He’s done over 1,000 gigs and has done 2 Edinburgh Fringe solo shows (full runs) as well as 2 subsequent national tours. This will be his third solo show.

Here’s a list of awards he’s come close to winning: finalist in the Laughing Horse New Act (2014), Reading New Act Competition (2012), You Must Be Joking (2011) as well as a two-time finalist at the London Comedy Store Gong Show.

Quotes from industry / comedians / writers about Simon -

“You’re a more authentic John Oliver” - comedian Doug Stanhope

“That was awesome. I liked it… I don’t know why. But it was great. I’ll have you back” – Mike Manera (Piccadilly Comedy Club)

“What you’re doing is great… the problem is nobody understands it.” – Iain Coyle (Dave TV Comedy Commissioner)

“This is one of the few comedians to make me howl with laughter this year…” – comedian Adam Bloom

Our House + Bamboo - Christmas Knees Up (Free) at The Birdcage
Dec
22
to Dec 23

Our House + Bamboo - Christmas Knees Up (Free) at The Birdcage

We have teamed up with our good friends Bamboo to throw a jolly good knees up in our favourite city centre boozer, The Birdcage. We're going to plug in the rotary mixer, turn the volume up and play hours of our favourite vinyls.

Bamboo will enviably bring their summer long international vibes to the party keeping the disco thermometer levels high.

It's going to be a good old fashioned Christmas booze up! Plus it's FREE entry all night long. However we're expecting The Birdy to be at capacity from early as it is the busiest night of the year!

Let's give you a little taster about who we have playing on the night:

💋Nick Snell

Will be warming up the evening with a sultry selection of his favourite records. If you have every stepped foot into Sevenwolves you'll have noticed the smooth soundtrack that is playing in the background, that is Nick's capable handy work.

✂️Conor O'Brien

Conor is a huge fan of late 80s and early nighties house classics. Always digging for those feel good euphoric tracks that keep the dancefloor moving. Flint is a really good example of Conor's keen ear for a good tune as the ambience in the salon is always spot on!

🕯️Simon Sheldrake

I don't know many other people who can find such gems in such obscure places and at such a good price! Come and have a listen to what is in Simon's box of 45's. Expect a journey through rnb, soul, funk, disco and a lot more.

🌀Typo

Having recently smashed his support set for Boddika at Bermuda Bob's. Typo has a real taste for all things techno, garage and the odd jungle classic to bring that right energy to the dancefloor. Who knows what direction his set will take, what we do know though is that it'll keep everyone moving!

♥️Paul Flack

We love Paul, he is the man who's responsible for making all of our posters look so great! But it doesn't stop there he's also good a bloody good ear for a tune and plays some of the most fun and eclectic sets!

🌇Levi Fruits

One half of Our House and one half of Tropico Levi sure knows how to throw a party. We hear that Levi has been busy spending all of his spare cash on discogs and juno especially for this event. You can expect to hear lots of disco edits and the odd deep house roller.

💮Range

Coming of the back of one of his best sets to date at the last Our House event we're hype to hear what Rikki has packed in his bag! We hear there's going to be a ton of afro, techno and disco edits!

The Rabbitts Live in Norwich! W/Billy Lubach

Title:  The Rabbitts Live in Norwich! W/Billy Lubach

The Rabbitts are a British folk duo composed of Odhran and Lucy, their music is gentle, fun and riddled with natural imagery. As a couple the pair draw inspiration from their relationship, as well as old folk music and the new places they travel. The duo have just finished touring and travelling around Canada in a van that they lived in for over a year. They recently returned to the UK. Their latest album release 'Tall Pines & Tangled Vines' has received support from Norwich's own Future Radio and BBC Introducing as well as other online blogs and playlists.

"There’s nothing quite like a good “weird” folk record to subvert the nonsensical folk hybrids – this one is both hip and traditionally strange."- Jake Tully, Moxipop

"The Rabbitts embrace a minimalist beauty, exemplifying their knack for a gorgeous vocal delivery and their myriad of instrumental techniques." - Jonathan Frahm, For Folk's Sake

"Tall Pines & Tangled Vines is a playful LP with moody undertones that flood you with picturesque lyrics." - Aupium

Billy Lubach will be opening the show!

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Billy Lubach sings wistful and nostalgic songs with a distinctive voice and style. The Norwich based musician takes fragments of childhood memories and weaves them into surreal but universally relatable narratives. His idiosyncratic approach to songwriting creates beautiful, uplifting melodies.

Doors open 7pm/ show starts 7:30pm
