Christina Violet Sabberton of The Norwich Dandies talks to us about PETS WIN PRIZES…

DANDIFEST! is a two-week Arts Council England and Norwich City Council funded festival curated by The Norwich Dandies, a well-heeled collective of artists bursting with flamboyance and decadence. Launching on Monday 27th April at St. Margaret’s Church of Art, it is a fun-packed, colourful event where difference is accepted, encouraged and valued.

Tell us some key events coming up at DANDIFEST! this year.

We have some exciting events this year, lots of workshops throughout the week, and a fabulous costume ball at the Norwich Arts Centre called ‘TaDa’ on 2nd May, including DJs, bands, entertainment and prizes for the King and Queen. I’m going to make a golden handbag for the most fabulous drag queen so get your drag on! Keep your eyes peeled around the city for some of our other satellite exhibitions.

Last year, we held a similar exhibition with you called Reigning Cats and Dogs in aid of the Pet Food Bank. How did this go?

Brilliantly. We raised £273, which has been used to buy pet food for the Pet Food Bank and the People’s Picnic. And we all had cake with the artists and gave out hand-made prizes to our winners voted for by the public!

Why is supporting the RSCPA important to you?

Three and a bit years ago I found a kitten on the side of the road, she had injured her back legs. Having taken the stray to the local vets, the RSPCA paid for her stay and de-fleaing. After many visits from me, two weeks later no one had claimed her so I took Penny home. For the help the RSPCA gave my Penny and many other animals I would like to continue to repay them by raising money for our local branch, as part of this year’s DANDIFEST!

Do you have a favourite pet animal?

That’s easy, my cat Penny. She’s the best.
